Texas's Largest Ukrainian Cultural Exhibit Debuts in Dallas

We were proud to sponsor Texas's first and largest Ukrainian Cultural Exhibit, a historic landmark event showcasing the rich heritage, resilience, and artistry of Ukraine.
This groundbreaking exhibition was singly created by Chrystya Geremesz, a Founding Member of the Ukrainian American Society of Texas (UAST), whose vision and dedication brought this monumental showcase to life.
Grand Opening: The exhibition launched on January 23, 2026, with a celebratory Opening Ceremony. The event brought together Dallas City Council Members, representatives from the City of Dallas Mayor's Office, Dallas Public Library staff, and local Ukrainian community leaders and vendors.
Massive Scale: The exhibition spanned five distinct display areas and two galleries within the library, offering visitors a deeply immersive experience.
Diverse Displays: Attendees explored a vast collection of traditional textiles, musical instruments, intricate wood carvings, and cultural art forms curated for this unique showcase.
Educational Narrative: The exhibit successfully provided a comprehensive education on Ukraine through striking photography, informative banners, and compelling video presentations.
Dignitary Visits & Special Guest Tours
The exhibition received high-profile international and local recognition through historic special guest tours:
Mayoral Private Tour: On March 2, 2026, Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson was given an exclusive private tour of the exhibit. A centerpiece of his visit included a special video greeting sent directly from the Kharkiv Gallery room to Mayor Ihor Terekhov of Kharkiv, Dallas’s sister city in Ukraine, emphasizing the strong bonds of municipal solidarity.
First Lady of Ukraine Visit: On March 26, 2026, the profile of the exhibition was elevated further by a visit from Her Excellency Olena Zelenska, the First Lady of Ukraine. Alongside Mayor Johnson, she toured the galleries to view the curated artifacts and textiles representing the soul of Ukraine.
Ukrainian Bookshelf Launch: Coinciding with her tour, First Lady Zelenska officially inaugurated a new Ukrainian Bookshelf at the library—part of her global initiative to foster international cultural diplomacy and provide primary-source access to Ukrainian literature.
Main Gallery: Featured Artists
The larger gallery housed a wonderful collection of original art by three distinguished Ukrainian artists:
Roman Opalinsky: Renowned for his unique blend of traditional Ukrainian folk motifs, sacred icon styles, and modern avant-garde techniques.
Hanna Chekadanova: A celebrated Petrykivka artist whose vibrant compositions capture contemporary Ukrainian life, memory, and deep cultural roots through this UNESCO-recognized traditional folk art style.
Volodymyr Bevza: A masterful painter known for his powerful visual storytelling, complex textures, and emotive canvases.
Spotlight Gallery: The Resilience of Kharkiv
The smaller gallery featured a powerful, contemporary focus on Kharkiv, the second-largest city in Ukraine. This dedicated space highlighted the extraordinary resilience of its citizens during the current war through:
Before-and-After Photography: Striking visual displays contrasted prominent city buildings before and after bombings, illustrating the stark reality of the conflict.
Honoring Daily Survival: Exhibits documented the extensive, heroic work carried out by the city to support daily existence and maintain essential operations while under constant attack by Russia.
Educational Presentations & Workshops
To allow the public to dive deeper into exceptional Ukrainian culture, five weekend presentations and workshops were offered throughout the exhibit period:
The Bandura: An exploration of Ukraine's iconic, multi-stringed national musical instrument.
Petrykivka Art: A workshop teaching the traditional, colorful folk painting style designated as UNESCO intangible heritage.
Ukrainian Embroidery: A look into the deep history and regional identity woven into traditional vyshyvanka patterns.
Ukrainian Easter Traditions and Pysanky Painting: A hands-on session focusing on the intricate art of wax-resist egg decorating while being shown the beautiful traditions that enhance Easter celebrations.
Ukrainian Dance: An energetic showcase and demonstration of traditional folk choreography.
Special Film Screenings
During the three-month exhibit period, the showcase also extended its cultural reach to the silver screen with three special film events:
Historical Perspectives: Screenings of Taras Bulba and Fiddler on the Roof highlighted the complex history, deep-rooted traditions, and enduring culture of Ukraine.
Family & Folklore: The animated children's film Mavka brought a beloved Ukrainian folktale to life, capturing the imagination of younger audiences.
